One thing I really like about the French Quarter is that the artists work, live, and sell in this area. They tend to pull their work together in larger old colonial buildings and sell from there. People come from far away to buy it often pulling up in big fancy UN vehicles to buy art and carvings. There is an awesome studio right below my appartment (pic coming). Here are a few pics of some that are scattered around my 'hood.
Last night I had dinner (small place on the street--nothing fancy, very local) with one of the many artists (aka Moka) and he loved me primarily because his brother married someone from Seattle. Evidently I am now his brother-in-law but I told him "technically" I'm just his best friend. Either way, he says he is going to take me to him hometown in the mountains. Allons-y!
So the first pic (l to r) is where they sell paintings, the second is ceramics, and the last is of a local man weaving (click to expand them). Pretty cool.
