I know coconut water is the rage in the U.S. as it has some (assumed?) great health benefits. Well, over here it is quite easy to get a fresh coconut water right on the street. Typically, for about 15 or 20 cents a woman will hack the top off and then you drink right out of the coconut. When you finish she will crack it open make you a little spoon with which you can use to scoop out the meat. Very good.
Yesterday I got one but the smallest bill I had was 1,000cfa (about $1.75) which she could not ever make change for. However, I had already told her to cut it open and she started. Whoops. A very nice man having one (there was a small group of guys having some water and talking smack) paid for mine which was very nice. Just one of the many treats of life in l'Afrique. C'est super.
